An evening with Dermalogica celebrating the launch of their newest product – Phyto-Nature Firming Serum. Hosted by Selfridges at INTU Trafford Centre.
I have been a long time lover of Dermalogica however, since running out of my products and falling pregnant, I haven’t had a chance to stock up. I also wanted a review of my regime as there are certain products that are not advisable to use during pregnancy. The Daily Microfoliant being a such a product. Once a staple of my daily routine its now a case of ‘see you in February‘.
The event itself was extremely intimate. We were given a glass of Prossecco (2 for my friend Cazz) and a cupcake then invited to have a seat for our skin analysis with our Dermalogica expert – who really was an expert.
After having a very in depth discussion with us and review of our skin, it was time for the facial. It was only supposed to take 10 minutes but Cazz and I were so interested in the products and how things worked it took a lot longer. We were all having fun though.
Step 1: Pre-Cleanse
As my skin was a little on the dehydrated and sensitive side, we opted for the pre-cleanse balm which is a water-activated, balm to oil cleanser. It is super lightweight yet heavy duty. It will remove the toughest of waterproof mascara’s without being too tough on your skin. It’s also super hydrating and doesn’t leave an oily residue.
A product that is already part of my everyday routine.
Step 2: Double Cleanse
Now we have removed all traces of make-up, it’s time to remove any deeper impurities. Cleansing our actual skin. For this step, we used the Skin resurfacing cleanser from the Age Smart range. I am familiar with this product but not because it forms part of my skincare regimen, but because it forms part of my boyfriends! Skin resurfacing cleanser is a two-in-one, cleanser and exfoliator. a Key ingredient is Lactic Acid which assists in removing debris causing skin to look dull whilst re-texturising to fight the signs of ageing.
I’ve only ever used the ultracalming cleanser from Dermalogica as my skin is very sensitive. However, the skin resurfacing cleanser is still very gentle . It didn’t cause any upset to my skin at all.
Step 3: Masque.
Completely new to me, the Oatmeal masque. This is a professional grade product that I am told is only used in stores. So, if you want to try this, get yourself booked in for the Skin-Solver facial. The mask was applied with a fan brush, it felt really lightweight and gentle on my skin. After a couple of minutes sat on my face, a vibrating tool was used to help encourage the mask into the skin and remove any excess.
Step 4: Tone.
Again, a product of my partners skincare routine. Anti-oxidant Hydramist. Spritz over the face and your done. Therefore, no need to wipe off with a cotton pad! This toner aims to help firm & hyrdrate the skin by supporting it’s natural protective barrier.
Step 5: Serum – Phyto-Nature Firming Serum.
Finally, we have arrived at the peice de resistance. The product of the moment. Dermalogica’s newest addition, Phyto-Nature Firming Serum.
a dual-action phase serum created to mimic the behaviour of younger skin. Clinically proven to minimize the appearance of fine lines from the first use.
For around one week now (after winning it – more on that below), I have been using this product in conjunction with the ultracalming range. Suffice it to say, I have to agree with Dermalogica’s claims. I have noticed a huge difference in how firm and bright my skin is at present.
Step 5a: Gua Sha
A Gua Sha is a rose quartz stone which is used to gently massage the face. Using the Gua Sha boosts circulation and aids with lymphatic drainage. When partnered with the Phyto-Nature Firming Serum, after using the Gua Sha to massage in the serum, this combination leaves skin feeling lifted, firmer and brighter.
Step 6: Moisturise.
Having completed the facial, its time to lock in all the hydration and protect the base we have just created. Again, from the Age Smart range we used the dynamic skin recovery moisturiser. This easy wear, medium weight moisturiser contains a whopping SPF 50 so, it is perfect to use post facial to protect your skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays.
A launch evening would not be complete without a little competition. The prize obviously being the product of the moment and guess who won it?! – ME! Review coming soon…
