International Women’s Day 2020

International Women’s Day. A day which gains more and more popularity, year by year. But what exactly is, International Women’s Day?

What is International Women’s Day?

International Women’s Day  is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.

International Women’s Day is a day in which we celebrate the achievements of women on a global scale. Particularly any female actions which aid in bridging the gender gap.

When is International Women’s Day?

International Women’s Day is celebrated on 8th March each year. The first one took place in 1911 and it has been gaining more and more traction with each passing year.

How to celebrate

Each year, International Women’s Day has a theme. This year the theme is #EachForEqual. This theme is set to remind us that the responsibility for a gender equal world lies with each of us as individuals.

If you want to get involved then you can do so by using the relevant hashtags:

  • #EachForEqual
  • #IWD2020
  • #InternationalWomensDay
  • #SeeHer

If you want to take it a step further, you could help showcase those who you feel are championing within their respective fields – be that being a mother, a friend, a business owner, an artist. Every person has a role they can play in creating a world equal for all.

Who to Celebrate

I am very fortunate to be surrounded by some seriously strong and inspiring women. There are a few in my circle that really stand out though, making waves of their own. I have listed some of them below as they deserve to be celebrated and also because, what they do may be of interest to you.

Jacinta Dawn Russell, Made in Cheshire.

Jacinta and Jules of Made in Cheshire

What is more powerful than a mother-daughter duo? Aside from being one of my besties, Jacinta and her mama, Jools run Made In Cheshire, a web-design and marketing company. A fairly male dominated industry but these girls are bringing the pink power!

Laura, Smile at Style

Laura is one of the kindest but strongest souls out there. She is an artist through and through. Having recently got back from traveling the world her full focus now lies with her art work. Her pieces range from greetings cards, to logo design, to thought provoking illustrations. At present, Laura is still in the process of building her online shop however, her greetings cards can be purchased here and you can view her artwork here

Laura, Gift Me Box

Inspired by her tween daughter, Laura created Gift Me Box as a means of making starting periods less awkward. It is a one stop shop for everything needed to make that time of the month less of a stress. Perfect for tweens and adults alike. One of the best parts about this box though is that it is perfect for Dad’s to buy for their daughters to help support them through what can sometimes be a difficult/awkward time without adding to the difficulty/awkwardness themselves.

Eleanor Graceful

A fellow blogger and another one of my absolute besties. Ellie left a corporate job to pursue a more fulfilling career. Ellie now works for Cancer Research UK in the marketing and communications department and has an active role in many fundraising campaigns. As is the goal of Cancer Research UK, Ellie is helping to work towards a world that is Cancer free for all. If you want to follow Ellie’s journey and support the work she is doing alongside Cancer Research UK then you can do so here.

Beyond International Women’s Day 2020

As International Women’s Day 2020 comes to a close, it is my intention to continue the celebration of women throughout the rest of the year by showcasing them in individual blogs. Which brings me to the announcement of the latest series; ‘A day in the life of..‘ the purpose of each blog will be to give an overview as to what an average working day looks like from a range of people across varying industries. From self-employment, to HR Managers, to Artists, to assistants – we will aim to cover as much as possible.
